:"Day1"
"The DayDreamer" by Dan Departo. 08-10-1989.
Survivalist fiction for the rest of us. Here's how it begins:
"In the year two thousand thirty-four, after worldwide devastation
by the more deranged members of our species, a highly specialized
historian of eighty-four intellectually stimulating years will, at
long last, sit down in an underground bunker library and program
the computer to go into a hands-off mode of operation the next
time someone sits down before the keyboard.
"When a scholar next takes that seat, a summary of the subject to
which the old historian had dedicated a lifetime will fill the
small computer chamber as the voice of the historian narrates the
story, illustrated life-size on screen while a printout emerges
from a noisy peripheral behind the glowing keyboard."
A companion work, "Psychopathology of the Civilizer" is being
prepared, and may be available by the time you order this.

:"Dbate001"
"ShareDebate International" edited by R.H. Martin. 03-20-1990.
"In February 1990, Applied Foresight,Inc. released its first issue
of ShareDebate International, a ShareWare diskette magazine,
which is a debate forum for PC users by PC users who are
concerned about the present and the future. A distributor
identification capability is built into the magazine, along with
a commission schedule, so that readers can become distributors
and earn money copying the magazine, whether they subscribe or
not.
"This Charter issue advances six debate forums and solicits
non-fiction and fiction writers, with a payment schedule, to deal
with the issues. The forums, initially established, deal with a
National Interest Project-Level Stock Market, Occupational
Representation vs. Geographical Representation, Computer Modeling
Future Cities; Japanese vs. U.S. Patent Law; Economic Impact of
Corporate Income Tax; and the Existing Cost of Government
Intervention in Health Areas."

:"Follow"
"Follow Me" by Levi Mathews. 01-10-1989.
"Follow Me is a harmonic narrative of the ministry of Jesus the
Nazarene based on the Gospels of Mark, Matthew, Luke, and John.
The events described in Follow Me were recorded in at least
three of the four Gospels.
"Although contemporary grammar and punctuation have been used,
this does not represent a re-translation. The object here was
to create a brief, unified text which would serve to introduce
the Gospels to the modern reader."
Using "contemporary grammar and punctuation" is more effective than
it sounds: Follow Me reads very well, but remains faithful to the
original text.
Note that Follow Me is based on a Greek Orthodox harmony, rather
than the venerable King James.

:"Ten"
"Ten Science Fiction Stories" by Thomas A. Easton. 11-10-1989.
"When Ted Husted sent me a copy of his virtual book processor,
Iris, I wrote back, asking if he would be interested in
making available, as a virtual book, a collection of my published
short stories. Very kindly, he wrote back, saying yes.
"So here they are. Six of the stories belong to my Organic
Future series, two belong to my Howie and the Mayor series,
the others stand alone. For each one, the magazine or
anthology in which it was first published is indicated."
Dr. Easton is a man of many talents: Biologist, Author, Book
Reviewer, Programmer, and Poet. We hope to be seeing more of his
work in the future. In the mean time, we'll sure that you'll
enjoy these fine stories.

:Vsociety
"The Virtual Society" by Harvey Wheeler. 07-28-1989.
The Virtual Society examines the development of the modern library
-- from its prehistoric roots to its present form -- and a little
bit further.
The author, Harvey Wheeler, is director of the Virtual Academy, a
modem-based educational facility associated with USC. Professor
Wheeler is also co-author of Fail Safe, a gripping novel of nuclear
suspense.
Appropriately enough, this new edition of The Virtual Society is
being released as a "virtual book," and includes a number of
special CRT effects and hypertext reading aids.
Although it will be some time before phosphor and pixel replace
paper and ink, The Virtual Society is a good glimpse of what's to
come.
